Getting started
Is Brolift free?
Yes. Brolift is free on the App Store, with no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no ads.
Which iPhones can run Brolift?
Brolift is an iPhone app and needs iOS 26 or later. According to Apple, iOS 26 runs on iPhone 11 and later and on iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later. Workout generation also needs Apple Intelligence, which according to Apple needs an iPhone 15 Pro or a later model. On other iPhones the Generate a workout panel does not appear, and the rest of the app works without it.
Is there an Android version of Brolift?
No. Brolift 2.0 is an iPhone app, and there is no Android version of it.
Does Brolift work with Apple Watch?
Through Apple Health, yes. There is no Brolift app on the Watch, but the heart rate your Apple Watch records while you lift reaches Brolift through Apple Health once you turn on Apple Health in Brolift.
Does Brolift have widgets, Live Activities or Shortcuts?
No. Brolift 2.0 has no Home Screen or Lock Screen widgets, no Live Activities, and no Siri or Shortcuts support. Inside the app, the Dashboard shows stat tiles you pick. For workout generation, you can dictate your description with the mic on your keyboard.
Do I need an account to use Brolift?
No. There is no account and no sign-up. Your workouts are stored on your iPhone and synced through the iCloud account your iPhone is signed in to, so there is nothing to log in to. The only sign-in in the app is the optional one for importing an account from an older version of Brolift.
How is Brolift different from other workout logs like Strong or Hevy?
Brolift is free, with no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads. It needs no account, because your workouts sync through your own iCloud. It keeps a PR for every weight you lift, charts heart rate from Apple Health across each session, and can build a workout on device with Apple Intelligence on iPhones that support it.
It also has limits. Brolift runs only on iPhone, logs weights in pounds only, and has no export and no social features.
How do I contact support?
Email support@brolift.app with questions, bug reports or feature requests.
Logging workouts
How do I log a workout?
Open the Track tab (the dumbbell icon) and add exercises from the exercise picker. Each exercise has its own card, where you set weight and reps with the steppers and add, copy or delete sets. A set timer restarts with each set and a workout timer runs for the whole session.
When you save, Brolift tells you exactly what needs fixing, such as "Bench Press · Set 3: missing reps", and jumps you to it. A workout in progress is kept if the app closes, so you can pick it back up.
Does Brolift have a rest timer?
No. Brolift has no rest countdown. A set timer restarts with each set, and a workout timer runs for the whole session. Exercises of the Time type have their own stopwatch.
How do planned workouts work?
You can plan a workout ahead and start it when you get to the gym. Your plans are in Settings › Workouts › Planned Workouts: open one and tap Do This Workout to start it. A workout generated with Apple Intelligence can also be saved as a plan with Schedule instead of Track Now.
Can I add notes, photos and videos to a workout?
Yes. Each exercise card has an Add Note field that holds up to 1,000 characters. To add photos or videos, use the Attachments section when you save the workout: it opens your photo library and you can pick several at once. Brolift re-encodes them to save iCloud space, and they sync with your workouts through iCloud.
How do I log RPE?
RPE is part of Powerlifting mode. Turn on Settings › Preferences › Powerlifting (only available in Detailed mode), and the screen where you save a workout shows an Overall Effort slider from 1 to 10 in half-point steps. It rates the workout as a whole.
Can I add my own exercises?
Yes. Brolift has 1,081 built-in exercises, and you can create your own from the exercise picker or in Settings › Workouts › Custom Exercises. A custom exercise has a name, a muscle group and an equipment type. If you choose the Time type, you also set whether more time counts as a PR.
Can I log weights in kilograms?
No. Brolift logs weights in pounds only, and there is no kilogram setting. Decimal weights work, including ones typed with a comma such as 22,5. Body weight is also logged in pounds, and other body measurements in inches.
Progress and PRs
How does Brolift count a personal record (PR)?
For weighted exercises, Brolift keeps a separate PR for each weight you have lifted: the most reps you have done at that exact weight. A set is a PR when its reps match or beat that number, and the first time you lift a new weight, it is a PR automatically. For body-weight (Body Only) exercises, the PR is your most reps, and matching it counts too. For timed exercises it is your longest time, or your shortest if the exercise is set up so that less time is better.
What does "reps for PR" mean in the tracker?
The tracker shows your best reps at that weight plus one, the number that beats your record outright. For example, if your best at a weight is 6 reps, it shows "(7 reps for PR)". Matching your best also counts as a PR, and a weight you have never lifted is a PR at any number of reps.
Why don't I see PR badges?
PR badges only show in Detailed mode. If you switched to Basic Mode, switch back to Detailed Mode in Settings › Preferences › View Layout Mode.
How does Brolift estimate my one-rep max (1RM)?
Brolift uses the Epley formula: weight × (1 + reps / 30), rounded up to a whole pound. For example, 225 lb for 5 reps works out to 262.5, shown as 263 lb. Every exercise has an Estimated 1 RM chart, which plots the highest estimate from each workout, and a Max Weight chart, both over 3 months, 6 months, a year or all time. The free one-rep max calculator on this site uses the same formula.
What does Powerlifting mode add?
Powerlifting mode is off by default. Turn it on in Settings › Preferences › Powerlifting, which is only available in Detailed mode. It adds the Overall Effort (RPE) slider when you save a workout, and a Power Lifting group in Settings with Stats (including your squat, bench and deadlift total) and the Rep Max Calculator. The calculator takes 1 to 30 reps and uses the Epley formula (a single rep returns the weight you entered). It also lists 70% to 95% of your max, each rounded to the nearest 5 lb.
How is the squat, bench and deadlift total worked out?
The total adds three numbers: the heaviest weight you have logged in any exercise with "squat" in its name, the heaviest with "bench", and the heaviest with "deadlift". It uses weights you actually lifted, not estimated one-rep maxes.
Apple Health and heart rate
What does Brolift read from Apple Health?
With your permission, Brolift reads heart rate, active energy and resting energy for the time of each workout, and lists your Apple Health workouts so you can pick that time. The iOS permission screen also asks about steps and exercise time, but Brolift 2.0 does not use them. Health data is used only to show your own workouts, stays on your iPhone and in your iCloud, and is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.
Does Brolift write to Apple Health?
No. Brolift only reads from Apple Health and never saves or changes your Health data, so workouts you log in Brolift are not added to the Health app.
How do I turn on Apple Health in Brolift?
Apple Health is off by default. Go to Settings › Preferences › Apple HealthKit Sync, turn on HealthKit Features, then tap Request Permissions and allow the categories iOS asks about. After that, the screen where you save a workout has an Apple Health section.
What if the Apple Health permission popup doesn't appear?
Open the iOS Settings app, go to Health › Data Access & Devices › Brolift, and turn on all categories. You can change Brolift's access there at any time.
How does Brolift match heart rate to a workout?
When you save a workout, its Apple Health section sets the time range of your session: pick a preset of 1, 1.5 or 2 hours, or pick one of your Apple Health workouts. A range can be up to 12 hours long. Brolift then reads heart rate and energy for that range. The workout shows your average, low and peak heart rate, active and total energy, and a heart-rate chart across the session with a marker for every exercise. Press and drag on the chart to read your BPM at any moment.
Why is there no heart rate on my workout?
Heart rate needs a device that records it, such as an Apple Watch worn during the workout. Also check that HealthKit Features is on in Settings › Preferences › Apple HealthKit Sync, that Brolift is allowed to read heart rate in Apple Health, and that the time range in the workout's Apple Health section covers the time you lifted.
Workout generation with Apple Intelligence
How do I generate a workout with Apple Intelligence?
Describe the workout in a sentence, such as "heavy push day, 45 minutes, bench focus", and Brolift builds it from your exercise library. On the Dashboard, type it into the Generate a workout panel and tap GENERATE & TRACK to load it into the tracker. On the Track tab, tap the wand to open the AI Workout sheet, where Track Now starts the workout and Schedule saves it as a planned workout. You can also dictate the description with the mic on your keyboard.
What do I need for workout generation?
An iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence (according to Apple, an iPhone 15 Pro or a later model), with Apple Intelligence turned on and ready to use. On iPhones that don't support it, the Generate a workout panel doesn't appear. Write your description in a language Apple Intelligence supports.
What data does workout generation use?
It uses what you type, plus your PR weights for up to 12 exercises, so it can base the suggested weights on what you actually lift. Generation runs on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence, and nothing you type leaves your iPhone. It does not use your Apple Health data.
What does "Check Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri" mean?
It means Apple Intelligence was not ready on your iPhone when you tried to generate a workout. Open the iOS Settings app, go to Apple Intelligence & Siri and make sure Apple Intelligence is on, then try again in about 10 minutes. Brolift hides workout generation for 10 minutes after this message.
What does a generated workout include?
Between 1 and 12 exercises with 1 to 10 sets each, usually 3 to 5 working sets unless you ask for something else, with weights in whole pounds. Exercise names are matched to the exercise library. If one doesn't match, tap Pick replacement to choose another exercise, or turn it into a custom exercise.
iCloud, backup and your data
Where are my workouts stored?
On your iPhone, and in your private iCloud database when you are signed in to iCloud. That covers workouts, sets, planned workouts, custom exercises, measurements, photos and videos. Brolift has no server of its own for your workouts, and the developer cannot see them.
What does the "Not backed up" banner mean?
The banner reads "Workouts are saved on this device only. Check iCloud in Settings." Brolift still works without iCloud, but your workouts are then saved only on this iPhone and are not backed up. To fix it, sign in to iCloud in the iOS Settings app and make sure iCloud Drive is on. Tapping the banner opens Backup & Storage, where you can check the status. The X hides the banner for a week, and it comes back sooner if the reason changes.
What does the Backup & Storage page show?
Settings › Account › Backup & Storage shows your iCloud status, "Last change from iCloud", and how many workouts, sets, planned workouts, custom exercises, measurements, and photos and videos Brolift has stored. iOS does not report when your own changes finish uploading, so the page can't show that. CLEAR DEVICE CACHES frees up space on the iPhone without deleting any workouts.
How do I move my workouts to a new iPhone?
Install Brolift on the new iPhone and sign in to the same iCloud account. If the old iPhone was syncing with iCloud, your workouts sync to the new one from your private iCloud database, and Settings › Account › Backup & Storage shows the counts. If the old iPhone showed the "Not backed up" banner, its workouts were saved only on that iPhone, not in iCloud. Keep the old iPhone until the counts on the new one look right.
How do I delete all my Brolift data?
Go to Settings › Account › Backup & Storage and tap DELETE ICLOUD DATA (it reads DELETE ALL DATA when Brolift is not syncing with iCloud). This deletes your workouts, sets, planned workouts, custom exercises, measurements, photos and videos, and your profile name and picture. When Brolift is syncing with iCloud, they are deleted on every device signed in to that iCloud account. It cannot be undone, and it does not touch an old Brolift account from an earlier version.
Can I export my workouts?
No. Brolift has no export feature, so there is no CSV or other file of your workouts to download. Your workouts stay in the app, on your iPhone and in your private iCloud.
Can I import workouts from Strong, Hevy or a spreadsheet?
No. The only import in Brolift 2.0 brings workouts from an older Brolift account. There is no CSV import and no import from other apps.
What does Brolift collect about me?
Brolift 2.0 has no account, no ads, and no analytics or tracking code. Your workouts stay on your iPhone and in your private iCloud, Apple Health data is only read and only shown to you, and workout generation runs on your iPhone. The privacy policy has the full details.
Coming from an older version
What changed in Brolift 2.0?
Brolift 2.0 came out on October 16, 2026, and is a new app under the hood. Your workouts now live on your iPhone and sync with iCloud, with no account and no sign-in. Heart rate from Apple Health is redesigned, with a chart across the whole session and a marker for every exercise. You can describe a workout and Brolift builds it, on device with Apple Intelligence. Saving a workout now tells you exactly what needs fixing. The social features of earlier versions (friends, comments and the feed) are gone.
How do I import my old Brolift account?
Make sure your iPhone is signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive turned on, then:
- Tap "Used Brolift before?" on the Dashboard, or go to Settings › Account › Import Old Account.
- Sign in the way you used to, with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google (the only two options). If you are not sure which you used, try both.
- Check the account under "We found this account" (its email, workout count and last workout date), then tap IMPORT THIS ACCOUNT, or NOT THIS ONE if it is the wrong account.
- Keep Brolift open until the import says All done.
Nothing is imported until you confirm, and nothing on your old account is deleted. You can run the import again later if you need to.
If neither sign-in finds your old account, email support@brolift.app with the email address you used on it.
What does the import bring over?
Your profile, your workouts with all their sets, planned workouts, custom exercises, body measurements, and the photos and videos attached to sets. Personal records are recalculated during the import. Friends, comments and the feed are not imported. The import adds to what is already in Brolift and replaces nothing.
How do I delete my old Brolift account?
Importing does not delete your old account. To have it deleted, email support@brolift.app from the email address on that account (or say which sign-in you used), and it will be deleted within 30 days. Brolift 2.0 has no Delete Account button, since the app itself has no account.
Do old shared workout links and the web dashboard still work?
No. Workout links shared from earlier versions (brolift.app/activity links) no longer open a workout, and Brolift 2.0 has no share links. The old brolift.app login and web dashboard are gone too. To bring the workouts from an old account into Brolift 2.0, use the import.
